Blind Mind – Episode 4

Reyansh couldn’t control his emotions. He was feeling happy. But after some time, he realized he had to clean the mess in his mother’s room. His mother would be home anytime. He wanted the room clean as if he had no plans to ask his mother about the letter. Without thinking much, he put back all the things that belonged in the trunk, except for the letter. He held onto that letter like it just belonged to him and not that trunk.

The anxiety in him was making him restless. He kept looking at the letter like somehow he would find all the answers he longed for in it. He now had new questions about his father. Did his father get his job back? Did Reyansh ever get a chance to sit on the chair his father had mentioned in that letter? If so, what color his father chose for that chair? He wished it wasn’t yellow!! His mother called him for dinner, and this pulled him back to reality.

He did not sleep that night. He knew he could not ask his mother anything about the letter. Though they never spoke about his father, he knew that the past still haunted his mother. He knew that he should find the answers himself and that he cannot afford his mother to relive any incident from the past. He just kept gazing at the letter. Now that he was calm enough to digest this new discovery, he saw the address mentioned in the letter with hope. He thought it might be this address that might guide him to the truth about what really happened with his father.

He was waiting for sunrise. He made up a story to tell his mother, about a cricket match he forgot to mention to her before and that he had to go to the neighboring town for the match and he would be back home late that day. He got the first train to Saharapur, the place mentioned in the letter, to meet Victor. On this journey, he was just thinking of how Victor and his father must have known each other. He also knew that he just had one question to ask Victor.

With some struggle, he did reach the address. He rang the bell and prayed the same time that Victor still resided there. An old man, with brown trousers and a loose denim shirt, opened the door. With newspaper in one hand and fixing his glasses with the other, he looked at Reyansh waiting for him to introduce himself. After Reyansh told him that he was Mohan’s son, Victor hugged him tightly. Reyansh was emotional too like he knew this was the day he had waited so long. Victor took him in and asked him to sit. He was about to go inside to get Reyansh something to eat but was stopped by Reyansh. Reyansh requested him not to bother with anything and expressed how happy he was to see him. But without wasting any more time he was straight with the one question he had “Can you tell me everything you know about my father? “Victor saw the innocence behind that question. Reyansh’s eyes were filled with tears and hope. Victor had no reason on why a son cannot know about his father. He told Reyansh he would tell him everything he knows about Mohan.
